I bought both of the kids cute springy outfits yesterday with some gift cards I had. You’ve seen Hayden’s purple linen shirt and cute white hat in his photos – which, by the way, Wade thinks looks goofy – I happen to think Hayden looks adorable in purple and he loved his hat … Here is Ms. Emelyn in one of my favorite colors to put her in! Yesterday was her 16 month “birthday!”
This Mardi Gras, we headed out to Wade’s aunt’s house in Metairie, as we always do. She lives less than a block from Veterans and its a great family atmosphere. I’ve never been a big fan of Mardi Gras or parades, but since we started going there, I’ve begun to really enjoy it, especially since the kids are old enough to enjoy it, too. I was a little nervous about taking Emelyn this year because she’s gotten so independant and always wants to walk, so I was scared it would be hard to keep up with her. I borrowed the wagon from my mom’s and she loved it. She only tried to run off a couple of times and the rest of the time she climbed in and out of the wagon, playing with beads and snacking on crackers. She also spent a little time on daddy’s shoulders, which she really liked. At first, I wasn’t sure if she “got” what was going on, but when I was holding her, she held up her hands and started saying “aaaahhhh!” It was so cute.
Hayden also had a blast that day and spent most of his time on daddy’s shoulders, going from float to float. Wade and Uncle Michael had a little contest to see who could get him the coolest throws. He also made a new friend, Ivy, who is his age. He spent some time running around the house with her.
Overall, it was a really fun day. Once the parade was over, we hung out at Aunt Nancy’s house for a bit while Wade played basketball with all the men. The kids played with Ivy and Emelyn kept running into the middle of the game. We got home around 7 and despite not taking naps all day, both kids were wired and didn’t want to go to sleep. I’m really starting to love Mardi Gras and I’m looking forward to taking them to the bigger parades next year!
